"During the Gold Rush in May of 1848, a miner by the name of Claude Chana discovered gold in the Auburn Ravine, and a new mining camp, which had been known as North Fork Dry Diggins, Rich Ravine, Wood's Dry Diggins and Auburn Ravine, was officially named Auburn." Today it is loved by tourists and locals alike for its rich history and beautiful scenic views. Recreation includes hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, skiing, boating and golf.
Annual events include the Placer County Fair, Cruise Night, American River Confluence Festival, Auburn Art Walk, SPCA BBQ & Blues, 4th of July Parade & Celebration, Black & White Ball, Auburn Symphony Brass & Brew, Fall Antiques Street Fair, and the Festival of Lights.
Foresthill, California
Historic oldtown Foresthill is only 17 miles from Auburn and Todd Valley is only 13 miles from Auburn. The town of Foresthill was established in 1850 as a direct result of the discovery of gold.
Today it is known for some of the most scenic areas in Northern California. Recreation includes Lake Clementine for boating, Sugar Pine Reservoir for canoeing or fishing, and numerous trails for hiking, horseback riding and OHV's. Annual events include the famous 4th of July Parade, Foresthill Heritage Celebration, California State Gold Panning Championship, American Legion Pig Roast and two international events, The Tevis Cup and the Western States 100 mile Endurance Run. These wind through our historical old town business district.
We have an elementary and middle school and our new high school is completed.
